Biography

Seenu Singh was born in Bhopal, India on the 14th of March 1985 and started playing on piano at the age of six. At the age of two he moved to France with his family, then to Australia and finally to Belgium, where he has been living for about twenty years.

He has been described by critics as "an artist of consummate technical ability" who "passionately makes the music of Chopin sing in a manner like no other" and an artist with a "true instinct for the atmospheric power of the music". The recitals he has given in Europe and Asia have been described by media as: "splendidly expansive performance...building to a shattering climax of pianistic brilliance", "the enthusiastic response of a grateful audience meant that surely this will go down as one of the most memorable recitals of the Chamber Music Series", "overwhelming success", "recreating magic" and "tribute to the great composers".

Seenu has been invited to perform in many prestigious venues of the world including the "Concertgebouw" in Amsterdam, the "National Centre for Performing Arts" in Mumbai, "His Majesty's Theatre" in Aberdeen, "deSingel" in Antwerp, "Plenary Theatre" in Kuala Lumpur etc. In various countries, many of Seenu's concerts have been sold out and due to great interest and demand of the public, he was invited to repeat the same programs as well as present new programs for the same venues for following seasons. He has performed for many distinguished guests such as Ambassadors, High Commissioners, the Vice-Minister President of the Government of Flanders, Mayors etc.

Upon the kind recommendation of Maestro Zubin Mehta, Seenu was guided by distinguished pianist Mr. Rudolf Buchbinder at the "Palace of Fine Arts" in Brussels, during Mr. Buchbinder's concert tour of Belgium.

Seenu has won several prizes in international piano competitions, such as, amongst others, the "2nd Prize" in the highest category of the "7th International Piano Competition of the Russian Conservatory Alexander Scriabin" in 2007, in Paris (France), "3rd Prize" in the highest category at the "Concours International de Piano "Simone-Delbert Févrieré France Côte d'Azur" in Nice (France) in 2007, "1st Medal - Unanimous Decision" at the "XIIème Concours de Piano de Brest Catégorie Z: F. Chopin", Brest (France) in 2007 and he is regularly invited to play on special occasions, internationally.

Seenu's 'Chopin Recital' and 'Beethoven Recital' have been selected by the Government of Flanders to be part of their program of "New Talent", an initiative which selects and promotes promising young artists throughout Belgium.

In The Netherlands, he was invited to perform in the Spiegelzaal of the prestigious Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Besides this, to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Chopin in The Netherlands, he was invited to perform for the 50th jubilee of Castle Duivenvoorde as well as many other concerts for cultural organizations throughout the country.

Seenu is a regular guest at concert venues throughout Belgium and has also given tours in India, Malaysia, Scotland and Estonia. He was also invited to perform for several large festivals including the prestigious "Festival of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen" in The Netherlands, "Festival Pulptuur" in Belgium and the "Aberdeen International Youth Festival" in Scotland.

In September 2011, Seenu was specially invited by the Hungarian and Belgian Embassies in Estonia to perform 'Liszt Recitals' to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Liszt in 2011 as well as 20 years of the diplomatic relations between Belgium and Estonia. One of these concerts was organized in a prestigious auditorium in Tartu, where Franz Liszt himself gave 3 concerts in 1842.

To celebrate the 200th anniversary of Frédéric Chopin in 2010, Seenu was invited to perform 'Chopin Recitals' in different countries, amongst others, upon invitations by Polish Embassies. He was also specially invited by the Belgian and Polish Embassies in India and Malaysia to perform solo "Chopin Recital" tours in the most prestigious halls of India and Malaysia, by means of which the Embassies celebrated the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union together with the 200th anniversary of Chopin.

Education

Seenu graduated from St. Michielscollege in Brasschaat with a diploma of "Science - Mathematics 8" with distinction in 2003, as well as a diploma from the Municipal Academy of Music in Antwerp for "Piano" with highest distinction in 2003. He then pursued the art as a profession at the Royal Conservatory of Flanders in Antwerp where he graduated as "Master in Music" with distinction in 2008.

In his final year at the Royal Conservatory of Flanders in Antwerp, he was selected by the "Foundation Conservatory Antwerp" for a prestigious scholarship for outstanding achievement.

At the Royal Conservatory of Flanders in Antwerp, he studied piano under the experienced guidance of Prof. Levente Kende and Prof. Heidi Henderickx. Besides his interests in music as a solo pianist, he has also followed many classes in Chamber Music, from artists such as Mr. François Deppe, Mr. Pascal Sigrist, Mr. Jozef de Beenhouwer, Mr. Guido De Neve, Mr. Leo De Neve, Mr. Vegard Nilsen, Mr. Roland Broux and others.

Seenu has also followed Masterclasses for Piano from world renowned artists such as Ms. Irene Russo, Mr. Jan Wijn, Mr. Kum-Sing Lee and Mr. Rudolf Buchbinder.
